Unlike tightly woven fabrics, BAFA® laid scrims consist of yarns crossing diagonally at wider or narrower intervals.
During production, they are impregnated with an adhesive binder. Once the binder has dried, the contact points are bonded. This allows any yarn spacing and angle.
Depending on the number of longitudinal and diagonal yarns, a close- or wide-meshed diamond structure is created.
The binder material determines further properties: stiff or soft, tear-resistant, waterproof, biodegradable, flame-retardant and more.
BAFA® laid scrims can be used on the face or the back of wallpaper.
On the face, they are a real eye-catcher.
With natural fibres such as cotton, jute, hemp or sisal, they make an ecological statement.
The wallpaper remains recyclable as waste paper. Glass, carbon or steel fibres, by contrast, emphasise a technical look.
On the back, laid scrims create a subtle wave effect in the wallpaper.
The wave effect can be fine-tuned via the yarn thickness.
